Medicaid

Medicaid is a joint federal and state health insurance program for people with limited income and resources. Although the federal government has basic rules for Medicaid programs, each state manages its own program.

In contrast to Medicare, Medicaid recipients can be below 65 years old. Medicaid often also offers benefits beyond those of Medicare, such as nursing home care.

Medicaid recipients are typically not responsible for many of the financial obligations that Medicare beneficiaries are responsible for, such as deductibles, premiums, copayments, and prescription drug costs.
