Medicare-Medicaid Plan (MMP)

A Medicare-Medicaid Plan (MMP) is designed to coordinate both Medicare and Medicaid benefits into one, integrated system of benefits for beneficiaries. Such plans are capitated models, meaning that there is a payment arrangement for health care services in which an entity (i.e. physician or group of physicians) receives a set sum of money for each person enrolled in the plan, per a set period of time, in exchange for health care, regardless of the amount of care that person requires.

These plans are only available in some states and are jointly managed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the participating state. The purpose of the arrangement was to maintain or decrease costs while improving care. Benefits vary among states.
